How it works
-
Smell gas? Get out first
Leave the house, don't flip switches, and call PG&E or 911 from outside. Once it's safe, call us.
-
We come out
A suspected leak gets a response any time. A new gas line gets scheduled like any other job.
-
We find it and fix it
We locate the leak, repair or replace what failed, and add a shutoff where one is missing.
-
We pressure test
The line gets tested before anything is turned back on, and we walk you through what we did.
What our job records show
16
Gas line jobs since November 2025, not counting water heaters.
Those include leak repairs, valve replacements and brand new lines. In Santa Rosa this September we ran a new 30 foot galvanized gas line with a shutoff valve from the meter to a generator on the deck, then pressure tested it before it went into service.
Aging fittings, corroded connections and shifting soil all wear on gas piping over time. Most leaks we find are at a fitting or a connector, not in the middle of a pipe.

Who does the work

Glenn Lopes
Owner and C36 license holder. Started Big Island Plumbing in 2017 after five years as a carpenter and a six month UPC code course. Every gas line gets a pressure test before we leave. No exceptions.

Questions we get asked
What should I do if I smell gas?
Get everyone out of the house. Don't turn lights or appliances on or off, and don't use your phone until you're outside. Call PG&E or 911 from outside, then call us once they've made it safe.
How much does gas leak repair cost?
It's flat rate. We charge $69 to come out and find the problem, then give you one price for the repair before we start. A leak at a fitting costs a lot less than replacing a run of corroded pipe.
Can you run a gas line for a generator, fire pit or barbecue?
Yes. We run dedicated lines from the meter with their own shutoff, routed and supported along the house or underground, and pressure test them before they go into service.
How do you know the repair worked?
We pressure test the line after every repair or new install. If it doesn't hold, it doesn't get turned back on.
Are you licensed?
Yes. Big Island Plumbing holds California C36 plumbing contractor license #1090862. You can verify it on the Contractors State License Board site.
